Primary Insurance Group is providing cover for those left stranded by avalanches who would previously have had to foot their own bills.
The insurer underwrites several leading travel operators offering ski holidays. Many insurance companies do not offer avalanche cover or charge an extra premium.
Primary spokesman John Bibby said: "Although avalanches are not common, it is still a risk for which skiers must be covered. While some insurers do not cover skiers for avalanche cover, or charge an extra premium, we take a broad view of the insurance needs of our travel partners and their customers."
Primary provides avalanche cover up to £200 to cater for extra costs incurred.
