Royal & SunAlliance technical manager Philip Bell has been appointed as chairman of the Comité Européen des Assurances (CEA) general liability committee.

Bell previously chaired the CEA's environmental liability subcommittee.

The CEA is the European federation of the insurance and reinsurance industry.

CEA director general Daniel Schanté said: “Phil Bell is an expert in liability issues facing insurance both at national and European level.

“At the head of the GL Committee, he will play a leading role in CEA's work on the insurability of new risks and the feasibility of compulsory financial guarantee schemes.

“Bell has contributed decisively to the adoption of the environmental liability directive in line with the industry's position.

“He will be monitoring current proposals for compulsory recall cover for the feed industry, the proposed directive on services in the internal market, the reform of product liability and potentially insurance cover for GMOs.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
