SSP has suspended its service on aggregators following an “unauthorised attack” on its integration with Google Compare.

The price comparison websites affected include Moneysupermarket.com, Gocompare.com, Confused.com and Comparethemarket.com.

SSP said in a statement that it had been alerted to the security issue and had temporarily suspended all integration with price comparison sites as a precaution.

The software provider said it was in close contact with affected brokers and the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

SSP said the sites were now secure and there was no further risk of data loss from the attack.

The technology firm said it was investigating the matter.

The statement said: “During this process, we are collaborating with Google to gain more information in respect of the incident and our focus is to get our customers trading again. We anticipate that our price comparison integrations will be re-activated later today.

“SSP takes data security very seriously. We have implemented our information security management policy and are in close contact with both affected insurance brokers and the ICO.”

Google said in a statement: “As soon as we became aware of this problem, which occurs on certain broker websites that use SSP software, we suspended those brokers.

“We have raised this issue with SSP and have asked them to address it immediately.”

A spokesman for the ICO said it was currently making enquiries into the issue.
