Motor estimates
Audatex has announced a development to its AudaWorkstation motor estimating system.

The technology provider has built a concept called `versioning' into the product, allowing insurance engineers and repairers to identify where changes have been made between assessments.

The system provides a view of the authorisation status of the estimate, as well as the ability to run a comparison report to highlight the differences between estimates.

Free broker service
Broker portal The Exchange, part of the Marlborough Stirling Group, has launched a free general insurance transaction service.

The service allows independent intermediaries using The Exchange to buy online travel and household insurance for their clients. The company plans to add motor insurance in the next few months.

The Exchange is an online information service used by more than 16,000 registered brokers and IFAs in the UK.

Privacy endangered
Insurers and risk managers are in danger of contravening the Data Protection Act with their use of telematics information, says fleet and motor legal experts Amery-Parkes.

Amery-Parkes partner David Faithful said users of telematics information could easily infringe fleet drivers' privacy.

Insurers and risk managers use the information to assess fleet risks.

Faithful said: "The systems provide a driver profile, such as how fast they drive, how hard they brake. To an insurer, that's useful in assessing how likely they are to have an accident."

Faithful said the use of such data became risky if, for example, the information were incorrect and led to the driver suffering an economic loss, or if it gave details of drivers' activities out of work hours.

Amery-Parkes will hold a round table discussion on 10 January to tackle privacy issues surrounding telematics.
