Wellington has increased its capacity projection for 2006 in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

In a statement Wellington said: "Wellington Underwriting...will be submitting to Lloyd's a revised 2006 business plan for Syndicate 2020.

"Following Hurricane Katrina, rating conditions are expected to improve, primarily in the energy, property and reinsurance lines of business. These improvements have led to a pre-emption from the current level of capacity of £730m in the 2005 year of account to a proposed level of £760m for 2006.

"Prior to Hurricane Katrina, Wellington had proposed a de-emption to £660m in 2006. The revised plan is subject to acceptance by the Franchise Performance Directorate of Lloyd's."
