Former Endsleigh interim MD replaces Barry Perkins

David Nichols

Zurich has appointed David Nichols as its new UK general insurance chief operating officer.

He replaces Barry Perkins, who left the UK GI chief operating officer role last month to become programme director for IT transformation in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region.

Nichols joined Zurich in 2004 from Aviva and has held a variety of roles at the insurer. He became interim managing director of personal lines and Zurich-owned broker Endsleigh in July this year following the departure of Tim Holliday.

Following the hire of new permanent managing director Patrick Cohen, Nichols reverted to his old role as customer operations director for personal lines and Endsleigh.

Zurich UK general insurance chief executive Vibhu Sharma said: “It’s great to have yet another example of the talent we have in the business that we can appoint from within our own ranks.

“David has a huge amount of fantastic experience and I’m excited about the invaluable customer insight and focus he’ll bring to the role when he starts in January.”

Nichols will continue to support personal lines and Endsleigh while a successor is found.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
