Insurer launches EL policy to focus on victim's injuries

Zurich has launched a new employers' liability (EL) policy which provides rehabilitation for injured workers regardless of liability.

Major customer manager for Zurich's UK Commercial business, Steve Green said the product, which was available through brokers, aimed to shift the focus away from compensation and claims.

"We want to move away from the traditional adversarial approach to one of working in partnership and ensuring injured parties are put at the centre of the deliberations," he said.

"The issue of who to blame is not relevant."

Green said that Zurich UK Commercial's claims account managers will work with policyholders to devise a system for reporting and assessing injuries as soon as they occur. This would ensure effective rehabilitation for employees and cost savings for employers, he added.

"Without early notification we cannot organise the appropriate treatment and many injuries need quick intervention," he said. "Plus if we are to get employees fit and back to work as quickly as possible we need to know as soon as a work-related injury occurs."

Rehabilitation under the policy will be managed by Zurich UK Commercial's Birmingham team.
