As if the past week has not been painful enough for Royal & SunAlliance (R&SA), it has had to cope with "totally incorrect" national newspaper articles.

It was reported over the weekend that R&SA had appointed external actuaries to conduct an emergency investigation into its asbestos liabilities.

For the record, R&SA insists it has not made any new actuarial appointments and is not unusually concerned about future asbestos claims.

"We have said we're looking to give some greater comfort to investors on some things they have concerns about in that area, but emergency actuarial reviews are not what we're about," a group spokesman said.
