Aviva calls for safer working practices

The changing nature of agriculture is creating new insurable risks, says Aviva.

Agriculture has one of the worst records for fatal accidents, with an average 46 work-related deaths each year. As part of its Simply Safety campaign, Aviva is advising on safer working practices.

Aviva liability risk manager Phil Grace said: “Within the agricultural sector there are a number of high-risk activities, including the use of farm machinery and work at height.

“With 50% of full and part-time farmers having diversified business as they look to increase their income source and respond to new and evolving consumer demands, they are faced with new risks.

“The sector continues to develop and is moving from traditional bed and breakfasts and retail, to sports and recreation, resulting in increases in the nature of the risks, in addition to the number and type of people exposed to them.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
