Axa and the Football Association (FA) are now talking again after the insurance company reacted angrily in the press to news that the FA Cup was no longer to be sponsored. Instead, the FA will have five partners.

Last Friday (September 28), AXA head of corporate affairs Phil Hickley said the FA had been “thoroughly unprofessional”.

By the following Monday, AXA had issued a contrite statement, saying it regretted there had been a “mutual breakdown in the communication and consultation process”. It also withdrew the unprofessional tag.

AXA, sponsors of the FA Cup until next May's final, now says it is talking to the FA about new sponsorship opportunities.
