AXA Assistance today reported that provisions put in place by the company following the Boxing Day tsunami are starting to see results.
The company said it had committed to bring its medical and logistical expertise to the local people, and dedicated a sum of €300,000.
The clinic of Patong Beach, which was almost destroyed by the tidal wave, was, last month, able to re-open its doors, the company said. AXA Assistance contributed to the reconstruction of the clinic and has supplied its equipment for medical examinations and consultations.
In the fishing village of Kamala, AXA Assistance obtained authorisation from the local government authorities to provide the community pharmacy with medical cover. The pharmacy now provides medical care for nine hours a day, seven days a week, completely free of charge, the company said.
AXA Assistance said: “We want to thank our many colleagues, who have worked tirelessly on a daily basis to bring their medical expertise, their help in the administrative process and organisation of repatriations, their psychological support and their attentive listening skills to the victims of the tsunami.”
