Beazley has poached Hiscox’s UK head of media Angela Weaver to head a new team targeting companies working in the sector.

The team, which will be in place by September, will offer a broad range of covers, including professional indemnity, cyber liability and data breach protection to UK and European clients in the advertising, digital media and marketing fields.

The team will be headed by Angela Weaver who has more than 15 years’ experience in the media insurance market.

For the last two years, Weaver has been UK head of media at Hiscox, before which she was in charge of European media underwriting.

Weaver will be accompanied by two former colleagues, Claire Templeton and Ana Bursack, who have 13 and five years of media insurance experience respectively.

Beazley has already carved out a niche as an insurer of media companies in the United States.

Media risks covered by the insurer in the US include defamation, copyright and trademark infringement, negligence or unintentional breach of contract arising out of technology or miscellaneous exposures, and liability resulting from breach of computer security, and theft or disclosure of personally identifiable information.

Announcing the creation of the new unit, Matt Norris, focus group leader within Beazley’s professional liability team, said: “I am delighted that Angela, Claire and Ana are joining us to lead this important initiative, which has the potential to be a significant growth area for Beazley.

“They bring with them a wealth of experience that will enable us to develop a full range of exciting products and to offer a combined cyber and professional liability package to media professionals.

“We see great opportunity in the media industry and the addition of the media team further demonstrates Beazley’s strong commitment to providing specialist services.”
