CFC-backed e-trading MGA Modus has hired Jackie Coppen as head of underwriting.

Coppen joins the business from Towergate Underwriting and is the first senior hire to be made by the MGA which launched at the start of the month.

Modus director Natasha Pettet said:  “We are delighted to have been able to secure someone as talented as Jackie to head up and build our personal lines underwriting team.  She has extensive experience in the home and landlords’ markets and is a perfect fit for our business.”

Modus has been set up by the three former senior staff that set up Arthur J Gallagher’s e-trading division and left in July.

Led by Simon Read, Scott Banks and Natasha Pettet, the business aims to be writing more than £100m annually in gross written premiums within 5 years.

The MGA specialises in underwriting and distributing auto-rating household, landlords’ and commercial products through software houses and direct to brokers in the UK.
