Departure to ‘pursue new opportunities’ after four years

Covéa personal lines director Colin Batabyal has resigned from the insurer.

Batabyal joined the company as underwriting director of MMA Insurance in 2010, and became personal lines director when Covéa Insurance was created in 2012.

The insurer said he had left to pursue new opportunities, and it has not yet named his replacement.

Chief executive James Reader said: “I’d like to take this opportunity to express my thanks to Colin for his valuable contribution to our business during his time with us and for the support he has given me through an exciting period as we have created Covéa Insurance.  We wish him the very best for the future.”

Covéa’s gross written premium fell by 17% to £385.8m last year as it pulled back from personal motor lines, citing an unjustified drop in market rates compared to the modest savings in claims costs from legal reforms.

However the profitability of its personal lines motor and homes business improved.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
