Defaqto has called for insurers to be transparent about the terms of long term protection policies.
Despite the ABI's efforts to protect insurers, consumers are still unaware of whether their premiums will be increased, Defaqto said.
It said policies such as payment protection insurance and critical illness cover were susceptible to rising premiums.
It is time to be “more transparent” about consumer premium review history, it said.
