DIY accidents are expected to soar as millions of homeowners start work on repairs over the Easter Bank Holiday.

There were more than 20,000 DIY-related injuries last April, compared to 47,000 for the first three months of 2000, with the largest cause of injury being falling from a ladder.

But according to Longford Insurance, few people consider the impact DIY-related injuries can have on their job.

Property surveyor Stuart Robinson ended up with his foot in plaster for six months after falling from a garden shed he was mending.

He was unable to drive but was able to keep mobile because he had Chaufferplan replacement car cover.

Longford Insurance director John Bull said: “Most of us have done some sort of DIY in our homes or gardens, but normally would not even consider that a simple DIY task at the weekend could result in a hospital trip and weeks of not working.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
