FirstAssist has appointed Dr Les Smith as group medical director.

Dr Smith will strengthen FirstAssist's employee risk management offerings, designed to help businesses minimise sickness absence whilst boosting bottom line productivity.

Dr Smith is a widely recognised industry expert in managing the medical and ethical standards of a company, as well as quality assurance and clinical governance.

His career includes positions with the Royal Air Force, British Rail and Scottish Power Group, where he was chief medical officer. He was also head of employee health services at pharmaceutical company Pfizer.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
