A guide to this week's movements in the insurance industry

HSBC
Steve Pratt has joined HSBC Insurance Brokers as divisional director for the intermediary marketing division.

He joins from Heath Lambert where he was executive director responsible for motor fleet.

Lockton
Lockton International has appointed Ian Harrison as an executive director of its global casualty team.

He will be responsible for growing the company's product recall, contamination and guarantee insurance business.

He has over 20 years' experience in insurance and joins from Miller Insurance Services.

Lockton has also announced the appointment of John Potter as a risk management consultant in its Manchester office.

He joins from SLE World-wide, a division of Aon. Potter has over 10 years of risk control experience within the manufacturing sector and insurance industry.

Insurer

Assurant
Assurant Solutions has announced details of two new appointments. Andy Mills has been appointed compliance director for Europe and Chris Morton becomes product development manager.

In his new role, Mills will manage the compliance infrastructure for Assurant Solutions across its UK and European business units.

He joins from Grant Thornton UK.

Morton will be responsible for product development strategy for the personal property protection market.

He has extensive knowledge of the extended warranty and product replacement markets, having worked within the telephone services team at Assurant for over seven years, managing the team for the last four.

Dual
Dual Corporate Risks has appointed Chris Fletton as director and senior under-writer to its professional indemnity division.

Fletton previously spent six years at QBE Insurance, latterly as underwriting operations manager.

Arista
Arista has appointed Hasmita Zaveri as underwriter.

Her key responsibility will be to develop new business for Arista in the north London area. She will use her existing broker contacts as well as capitalising on new opportunities to grow the business.

Prior to joining Arista, Zaveri was development manager for SME business at AIG.

Tokio Marine
Tokio Marine Europe Insurance (TMEI) has appointed two members of staff at its Midlands regional office in Birmingham.

David Batey has been appointed as senior under-writer and Owen Shelley as assistant underwriter.

Batey joins TMEI from St Paul Travelers, where he worked for six years as a development underwriter.

Shelley joins from HSBC Insurance Brokers.

Davies Lavery
Davies Lavery has appointed Catherine Berg as an assistant solicitor.

Berg joins from Halliwells, and advises on a wide range of claims including road traffic accidents, employers' liability, public liability and occupiers liability.

She also has expertise in defending claims including both complex liability and quantum issues involving brain injury, spinal injury, amputee claims and serious orthopaedic injuries.

Silverbeck Rymer
Silverbeck Rymer has promoted Beth Jones to associate partner.

Jones joined the firm as a newly-qualified solicitor from Gamlins Solicitors in 2004.

Close Premium Finance
Close Premium Finance has appointed Fiona Redmond as an account manager for Dublin and southern Ireland.

Redmond has nearly 10 years' experience in insurance. She has worked with com-mercial and corporate brokers both in Ireland and Australia, including Sedgewick Dineen, Heath Lambert, Penco and Alexander Forbes Risk Services.

Her role will be to build relationships with existing and new brokers. This will include providing brokers with any training requirements and helping arrange finance packages for their clients.

Close Premium Finance has also announced that Paul Barrow has rejoined the company as new business manager.

Barrow has more than 13 years' experience in the insurance industry and will be responsible for developing relationships with new brokers. He will also help grow existing key accounts.

ISS Damage Control
ISS Damage Control has appointed George Velho as its new regional manager for London.

Velho will be responsible for managing and developing the company's service to clients.

He joins from ISS Facility Services.

Direct Group
Direct Group has appointed Charles Coburn as business development manager.

He will be responsible for developing new and existing relationships with insurers and lending clients.

Coburn joins from Sterling Insurance Group.
