Cooper Gay

The Cooper Gay Group has appointed Mark Lowndes as a director within its special risks division.

Lowndes will play a role in the expansion of Cooper Gay's worldwide portfolio of crime insurances and bankers blanket bond. He will also develop professional indemnity and directors' and officers' liability insurance.

He has 25 years' experience in the industry. Prior to joining Cooper Gay, he was an executive director within the financial and professional risks division of the Heath Lambert Group.

D&D Homecare

D&D Homecare has appointed Paul Thompson as managing director. Thompson was formerly operations director.

Derek Green, founder and previously managing director of D&D, has taken up the role of chairman of the board.

D&D Homecare is a provider of general insurance products to the mortgage market.

Waveney Insurance Brokers

Waveney Insurance Brokers (Commercial) has appointed Andy Peirson as commercial account manager at its Ipswich office.

Peirson has 26 years of insurance broking experience. He spent the past 13 years with a Lowestoft-based broker.

Waveney Insurance has a branch network of offices in Ipswich, Lowestoft, Norwich, March and Peterborough.

Heath Lambert

Heath Lambert Group has announced the retirement of Roger Earl.

Earl has been with Heath Lambert for the past 25 years, and was chief executive of the Fenchurch Group for 17 years. He has worked as a Lloyd's broker for 47 years.

Heath Lambert has appointed David Rudman as director responsible for business development and client servicing initiatives in the North.

Rudman will be based in Heath lambert's Manchester office. He previously worked for Aon for 40 years, with 18 years as managing director of Aon's Manchester office, responsible for corporate business.

For the past two and a half years, Rudman was regional client servicing director for Aon Corporate Risks.

Europ Assistance

Europ Assistance has appointed Fiona McDonald as deputy director of travel and leisure.

McDonald will be responsible for the under-writing and profitability of the travel insurance business in the UK and Ireland. She has nearly 30 years' experience in the insurance industry. She spent the last seven years working in travel insurance with Royal & SunAlliance and FirstAssist. She chaired the ABI travel insurance committee for three years.

At Europ Assistance McDonald will be based at the company's regional head office in Haywards Heath, Sussex and report to Gary Andrews, director of travel and leisure.

Henley Risk Management

Henley Risk Management, an Ipswich-based commercial broker, has appointed Bruce Workmaster as a senior account executive.

Workmaster has more than 20 years' commercial insurance experience. He has particular experience of the construction sector, an area in which Henley Risk Management plans growth.

Towry Law

Stuart Clarke has joined Towry Law Professions from Aon.

Clarke will have responsibility for ongoing client relationships for the professional indemnity team, part of Towry Law Insurance Brokers. Based in the Birmingham branch, he continues the expansion of the specialist team launched in November 2003.

Clarke has ten years' industry experience. His previous positions have included account handling roles at Aon, and prior to this Bradstock Insurance Brokers and also Bowring Marsh & McLennan.

J&M Insurance Services

J&M Insurance Services, an Epping-based underwriting agency and wholesale broker, has appointed Wayne Sherman as development executive (fleets).

Sherman joins J&M after six years with Aon, where he was a senior motor account handler. Before joining Aon, Sherman gained ten years' experience with Lloyd's syndicates.

Allianz Cornhill

Mark Ashwood has been appointed manager, motor trade, at Allianz Cornhill Commercial.

Ashwood joined Allianz Cornhill in 1987 and has worked in the company's Ealing and Woking branches as a commercial underwriter. His most recent role was senior underwriter in motor trade.

In his new role he will be responsible for broader management and development of the motor trade account.

Iain MacInnes has been appointed business development underwriter at Allianz Cornhill Engineering in Manchester.

Previously at Zurich, MacInnes has 15 years' experience in the engineering insurance and inspection market.

In his new role, he joins the team responsible for engineering business in Manchester and the North West.

Allianz Cornhill Legal Protection has appointed Steve Harvey as business relationship developer, covering the North.

Harvey was previously liability investigation manager with Royal & SunAlliance, where he worked for 30 years.

AXA

AXA UK has appointed Bob Dench as a non-executive director.

Dench was managing director of Barclays' general insurance, life and mortgage businesses until the end of 2003.

He is also a non-executive director of sailing events company Clipper Ventures.

Allianz

Allianz Marine & Aviation, an insurer for transportation, shipping and aviation risks of the Allianz Group, has recruited Ian Edwards as transport underwriter.

Edwards, who has more than 16 years of marine insurance experience, joins Allianz Marine & Aviation from The TT Group, where he specialised in port and terminal business.

Fortis Insurance

Fortis Insurance has appointed Julian Harvey as chief financial officer of Fortis UK, following the planned retirement of financial director Mike Cranston.

Harvey has more than 25 years of experience in finance and accounting, including 17 years in senior finance roles.

He spent seven years as vice president, finance of the Farmers Insurance Group, the third largest writer of private motor and household business in the US.

Harvey has most recently been running his own consultancy business.

Davies Arnold Cooper

City law firm Davies Arnold Cooper (DAC) has appointed associate partner Nish Kanwar to its commercial litigation department.

Kanwar joins DAC from the City office of Davies Lavery, where he was a partner. At DAC he will be responsible for travel, personal accident and legal expenses claims.

Debevoise and Plimpton

International law firm Debevoise and Plimpton has appointed two English insurance transactional lawyers, Jeremy Hill and Vivienne de Chermont.

Both Hill and de Chermont have acted for a range of clients in the London and European insurance markets, and at Lloyd's. Both are currently partners at Ashurst and will join Debevoise's London office.

Hill will join Debevoise as a partner and will be global co-head of the firm's financial institutions group.

De Chermont will join Debevoise as international counsel and will lead the development of the firm's English insurance practice.

XL Weather & Energy

XL Weather & Energy, an XL Capital company, has appointed Michael Corbally as senior managing director and chief operating officer.

Corbally will report to Robert Lusardi, chief executive of XL Capital's financial products and services operations.

Corbally was co-founder of XL Weather & Energy in July 2000 and was responsible for establishing and managing its risk management portfolio. Prior to that, he worked at Enron from 1996 until 2000 where, as director of weather trading, he helped develop and manage non-catastrophic weather-based derivative products for the US, Canada and Europe.

XL Weather & Energy is a provider of risk management products that allow businesses to mitigate their non-catastrophic weather and contingent energy risk.

National Property Solutions

Marion Billingham is re-joining National Property Solutions (NPS) to head up NPS People as personnel and training manager.

Billingham will be working a variety of hours to ensure all call centre staff get the opportunity to discuss issues with her.

Tony Kinch is re-joining the company as account manager, with primary duties to manage the relationship with B&Q and British Gas.

Bruce East has also been appointed as an account manager. East is a trained building surveyor and has experience in selling and account managing in the building industry and, more recently, as channel manager to MBNA Europe.
