The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service and Strathclyde Police are to carry out a joint investigation with the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) into the explosion at ICL Plastics in Glasgow.
The announcement was made after The Lord Advocate Colin Boyd QC, and the chair of the Health & Safety Commission (HSC) agreed to carry out a joint investigation.
The blast left nine people dead and seventeen seriously injured.
The HSE investigation team will be led by head of operations Stuart North, reporting to HSE Scotland director Stewart Campbell.
Detective Superintendent Jim Porteous will lead the Strathclyde Police investigations.
“After the investigation and any subsequent criminal proceedings have been concluded, the Lord Advocate will consider the need for a Fatal Accident
Inquiry, and consideration will be given to the need for, and nature and remit of, any other form of inquiry,” said the HSE.
Allianz Cornhill confirmed it had the property and EL cover for the factory, placed by broker Marsh. GAB Robins has been assigned to investigate the loss.
