The ABI and the Non-Marine Association of Lloyd's have drawn up a new code of practice to help injured or ill employees to trace their former employers' insurers.

The Code of Practice for Tracing Employers' Liability (EL) Insurance Policies will mean insurers must:

Save EL policy information; keep all future EL records in an easily searchable format; appoint a designated contact to handle EL enquiries; produce an annual statement of compliance.

The initiative was put together to meet the concerns of a number of employees unable to pursue compensation claims against former employers because of a lack of insurance information.
