Payments made by the insurer to a carbon offsetting organisation

A green driving programme for company employees which reduces the environmental impact of their motoring is launched today by insurance provider yesinsurance.co.uk.

The scheme, which is paid for by the employer and applies to both company and private vehicles, covers employees for both corporate and personal travel.

Offsetting payments, which are geared individually to the size and type of cars driven by each member of staff, are made by the insurer to the carbon offsetting organisation Climatesure.

These funds are then channeled into energy efficiency projects which reduce CO2 emissions by an amount equal to the emissions produced by employees' driving.

Paul Purdy, of yesinsurance.co.uk, commented: "As all of our business is conducted online, we only have a small number of employees, so the cost of running the scheme is relatively small."

"However, the principal of employers taking action to reduce the impact that both corporate and private motoring have on the environment is one that we would like to see more organisations adopting."
