Insurers get more choosy over which homes to insure

A Sunday Times/Chill.ie household-insurance-by-address survey shows that, Irish home insurance has risen 20% on average.

Top rises for the cheapest quotes include

  • Meath 25.3%
  • Cork City 18.7%
  • Galway City 18.6%
  • Dublin 2 17.3%

The most expensive quotes for the average home surveyed also increased:

  • Limerick city 46.9%
  • Co Limerick up 42.5%
  • Cork city up 43.8%.

The cheapest quote for an average home was €244.45, available in Dublin 4, 5, 7, 9, 14, 18 and Co Dublin. The most expensive quote was €723.16 for a house in Dublin 24, emphasising the need to shop around.

Padraig Lynch, director of Chill.ie, said: “Whereas in recent years they have been competing fiercely for market share, now they are being more choosy and are seeking more profitable business.”
