Dominic Burke says no part of the broker is for sale

Jardine Lloyd Thompson (JLT) chief executive Dominic Burke has described persistent rumours that his firm will be bought by Aon as “laughable”.

He also reacted angrily to talk that parts of the business would be sold off to rivals.

More recently, speculation has surfaced that JLT may sell its UK retail business.

“No part of the JLT Group is for sale today or under any circumstances that I could conceive,” he told Insurance Times.

Burke was speaking after JLT this morning announced its interim results for the six months ended 30th June 2010.

He described the broker’s five main business lines: retail, specialty, reinsurance, employee benefits and the recently-formed Thistle Insurance unit as “absolutely core to JLT”.

Burke dismissed the persistent rumours as “nonsense-mongering by one or two competitors that are disgruntled that they continue to lose people and clients to the JLT organisation.”

He added: “You would think they’d have better things to do.”
