The Council of Lloyd's has appointed Ewen Gilmour, chief executive of Chaucer Syndicates, as deputy chairman of Lloyd's.

Gilmour will replace John Coldman, chairman of Benfield, whose term of office expired on 31 January 2006.

Lord Levene, who was re-appointed as chairman of Lloyd's said: “Ewen brings to the role of deputy chairman an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the Lloyd's market and experience of the wider financial services sector. I look forward to working with him in the future."

The council also said it has re-appointed Bronek Masojada, chief executive of Hiscox as deputy chairman of Lloyd's and Bill Knight as deputy chairman of council.
