Broking giant Marsh has launched a web-enabled risk assessment tool to help businesses comply with the Health and Safety Executive's (HSE) stress management standards.

The new tool is being launched in a bid to meet the HSE's draft standards, which require businesses to achieve stress-related targets.

The Stress Risk Evaluation Service is a web-enabled survey tool designed to enable companies to assess levels of stress among employees.

Marsh Europe & Middle East head of risk consulting John Hurrell said: "The draft standards represent a step forward in the UK's attempts to deal with the problem of work-related stress. But small and medium-sized businesses in particular will want to know how to achieve and maintain compliance without acquiring a heavy administrative burden.

"Some insurers are starting to make corporate stress risk assessment a pre-requisite for Employers' Liability coverage. Even where this is not yet the case, a stress risk assessment can help to reassure underwriters that a company is properly managing its employee risks - essential when approaching the market for EL cover."
