The Motoring Uninsured Loss Recoveries Association (Mulra) has warned that uncertainty will continue to vex the after-the-event market, despite the closure of Callery v Gray.

The association said difficulties remained over the recoverability of premiums, although the Callery v Gray judgement endorsed the ATE concept.

Mulra chairman David Haynes said court challenges would continue as, in many cases, the courts still had to decide whether an ATE premium was reasonable.

"Similarly, there's been no let up by insurers contesting the appropriate rate for credit hires arranged by fringe operators," he said.

"Far from giving up on before-the-event, brokers should welcome the certainty it offers them and their clients."
