New Brit global chief

Brit Insurance has made two senior appointments in its global markets division, naming Matthew Wilson as chief executive following Mike Sibthorpe’s resignation. Kevin Huttly takes on the new position of chief underwriting officer. Both Wilson and Huttly joined Brit in 1999. Wilson was underwriting director of US property, space, and accident and health, while Huttly was underwriting director for financial and professional risks. Brit confirmed that Sibthorpe had joined rival WR Berkley.

Council mutual victory

The London Authorities Mutual has won a High Court victory after a challenge that threatened its existence. Councils are now free to join the mutual following the case Risk Management Partners Ltd v Brent London Borough Council which challenged the legal powers used to establish the mutual.

QBE extends IAG offer

QBE has extended its A$7.7bn (£3.7bn) takeover offer for IAG by two weeks. The previous offer expired on Monday. It followed an initial approach on 10 April, which IAG rejected.
