’He has a deep understanding of the insurance sector, the regulatory landscape and the commercial dynamics of our industry,’ says chief executive

Axa UK and Ireland has appointed Aviva’s Rahul Gumber as its new chief risk officer.

Gumber will take up the post in the new year and succeed David Baker, who has held the role for five years.

Baker decided to step away from his full-time career to focus on a non-executive portfolio.

“I’m delighted to be returning to the UK to join Axa UK and Ireland at such an exciting time for this business,” Gumber said.

“I look forward to supporting the future success of Axa and building on the great work Baker has done.

“Axa is a great company with a great brand and I’m thrilled to be joining the team.”

Experience

Gumber will join from Aviva Canada, where he was most recently chief risk officer. He was responsible for leading the second line risk and compliance team.

He also held the same role at Aviva Ireland for three years.

“I’m excited to welcome Gumber to our team,” Tara Foley, chief executive at Axa UK and Ireland, said.

“He has a deep understanding of the insurance sector, the regulatory landscape and the commercial dynamics of our industry. His strong leadership qualities and strategic thinking are evident as is his track record of building cohesive high performing teams.”

Speaking about Baker, Foley added: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Baker for his support and commitment over the past five years and wish him the very best with his next exciting chapter.”
