‘Their brands, underwriting teams, specialist expertise and relationships with brokers and capacity partners remain fundamental to what we are building,’ says new group chief executive

Bishop Street Underwriters has established a new UK group structure by bringing its specialty insurance businesses under a single management and governance framework.

The RedBird Capital Partners-backed business said Bishop Street Underwriters UK (BSU UK) would bring together Avid Insurance, Landmark Underwriting and Incorporated Insurance Group (IIGL).

The businesses will continue trading under their existing brands and regulated entities, with their underwriting and distribution teams remaining in place.

Stephen Gibson has been appointed group chief executive officer of BSU UK, alongside John Inwood as group chief underwriting officer, Jon Terry as group chief financial officer and Sitki Gelmen as deputy chair.

The new structure will introduce shared platforms and capabilities across the businesses, with Bishop Street saying this will help reduce duplication and improve the use of technology, resources and expertise across the group.

Gibson said the move would allow the businesses to operate “much more effectively as one group”, while retaining the characteristics of the individual operations.

“Their brands, underwriting teams, specialist expertise and relationships with brokers and capacity partners remain fundamental to what we are building,” he said.

Platform for expansion

Bishop Street said the changes are intended to create a scalable platform for further organic growth and acquisitions in the UK, while also supporting expansion into the wider European market.

They added there would be no change to the day-to-day service provided to clients as a result of the restructuring.

“We now have a robust UK infrastructure into which we can bring additional capabilities, giving our team members access to the expertise, resources and advancement opportunities of the wider group,” said Gibson.

The move follows the company’s acquisition of Landmark Underwriting in February 2025, its first expansion outside North America, followed by the acquisition of Avid Insurance in October 2025.
