For the 24th and last day of advent, Jason Storah, chief executive for general insurance at Aviva UK and Ireland, lists his Christmas wish list for the industry

1. What was your insurance industry highlight of 2024?

It’s tough to choose just one highlight, but finalising the Probitas deal really stands out for 2024.

There was a lot of buzz about Aviva re-entering the London insurance market. It’s a fantastic deal and it opens up so many exciting opportunities for us.

We’ve recently opened five new lines of business for Probitas and we’ve had a brilliant reaction from brokers, so this is just the beginning. We can’t wait to see what 2025 holds.

2. What is your Christmas message for your insurance colleagues?

2024 has been a fantastic year and a busy one too. It’s really important that people get a chance to take stock, relax and spend time with their loved ones.

I’d urge people to take a break if they can over the festive period, ready for another exciting year ahead.

3. What do you hope to find under the industry’s Christmas tree for 2024?

Some benign weather would be nice! And if we can’t guarantee that, a more joined-up approach when it comes to managing flood prevention.

Having a unified approach is crucial to ensure the UK is well prepared. We saw more than a dozen named storms this year and this isn’t an issue we can ignore.

But, by working together and being more climate-ready, we can help to protect more homes and possessions and, crucially, reduce distress and disruption for customers.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
