Swiss Re has announced that Ashley Hirst is returning to the company as head portfolio strategy and steering.

Hirst first joined Swiss Re in 2017 as group head of underwriting strategy, before moving over to Swiss Re Corporate Solutions as chief underwriting officer for standard business.
He then took on the additional role of chief innovation and transformation officer before leaving the business in 2022.
Hirst will return to Swiss Re in his new role on 8 June 2026 and be based in London.
Prior experience
Prior to Swiss Re, Hirst worked at insurer AIG for more than four years, latterly as chief underwriting officer and chief operating officer at AIG Europe.

Before AIG, he spent more than seven years with McKinsey as a consultant.
Announcing his latest role on LinkedIn, Kera McDonald, group chief underwriting officer at Swiss Re, said: ”I’m delighted that Hirst will be rejoining Swiss Re as head portfolio strategy and steering.

His career began in 2019, when he joined a local north London newspaper after graduating from the University of Sheffield with a first-class honours degree in journalism.
He took up the position of deputy news editor at Insurance Times in March 2023, before being promoted to his current role in May 2024.View full Profile
