Honcho is one of two UK insurtechs to be selected by the US based accelerator 

Durham based insurtech Honcho is taking on New York, after being selected by Insurtech NY to join its 2020 accelerator programme.

Insurtech NY claims to be one of the largest insurtech communities in New York. Its programmes aim to identify insurtech talent, connect businesses and improve investment.

The reverse comparison auction insurtech Honcho will join the cohort and represent the UK; it is one of two UK-based firms out of 22 firms on the programme, on-demand insurance firm Guardhog is the other.

Gavin Sewell, Honcho’ chief executive said: “We’re incredibly excited to have won a place on the Insurtech NY Growth Accelerator, which comes as we are increasingly gaining international visibility, and serves to reflect the global potential of the Honcho platform.

It follow Honcho revealing that it was in the final stages of its capital investment raise in July.  

Dynamism and innovation

“Insurtech NY have fantastic connections across the insurance industry in the US and we look forward to the access and insight the programme will bring to senior leaders at US insurers, re-insurers, venture capital [firms] and advisors,” Sewell continued.

Honcho is founding member of trade body Insurtech UK. Niall Barton, chair at Insurtech UK, added: “We are confident they will provide a great example of the UK’s insurtech talent, highlighting the dynamism and innovation of the UK as a global leader for insurance innovation. Congratulations to everyone at Honcho for this notable achievement.”
