The new hire, who will have a retail focus upon joining the firm, has more than 30 years of industry experience

Financial lines specialist business Lonmar Professions, part of GRP-owned Lloyd’s broker Lonmar, has appointed Sean Trent as divisional director, effective from June 2021.

Trent, who has 30 years of industry experience, initially started his insurance career at Lucas Fettes and Partners as an equity main board director and group head of professional and financial lines. This business was then bought by Stackhouse Poland in 2017 – Trent remained with the company following the acquisition.

In 2019, Stackhouse Poland was in turn purchased by Gallagher, where Trent then led the Profin team within its London retail division before accepting the role at Lonmar Professions.

In his new position, Trent will be working alongside Lonmar Professions managing director Alan Newall and his team.

Speaking on the appointment, Newall said: “Sean’s appointment underlines our commitment to grow both the retail and wholesale business for professional indemnity, cyber, management liability, medical malpractice and connected areas.

“In the current challenging market, there are nevertheless good opportunities for growth if we adopt the right approach.

“Sean brings a huge amount of experience and some excellent market and retail connections with him and he adds significantly to the bench strength of our team.”

Ambitious growth plans

Lonmar Professions specialises in providing professional indemnity insurance for a wide range of professions and trades, including accountants and surveyors.

The business also offers risk placement facilities for regional UK brokers via its parent firm Global Risk Partners (GRP) and its Hedron Networks division, which it bought in May from Marsh UK.

Trent added: “It’s great to be working with Alan and his team, who I already know well through some previous market placements.

“My primary focus will be on the retail side and I’m really looking forward to working with such a well-regarded and experienced unit and playing my part in delivering our ambitious growth plans.”

Lonmar formed in August 2018 after Lonmar Global Risks and Ropner Insurance Services were merged following their acquisition by GRP in 2016 and 2015 respectively.

The business now has a global client base across 70 countries and provides access to specialist underwriters and insurance capacity in London and other leading markets worldwide.
