The SME specialist gains Manchester-based business insurance broker.

Markel UK, part of specialist insurance business Markel International, has acquired freelancer and contractor broker Caunce O’Hara.

Markel UK, which provides insurance, tax and legal services for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), charities, professionals and sole traders, announced its interest in online business Caunce O’Hara on 12 September.

The acquisition was confirmed on 1 November, following regulatory approval from the FCA.

Growing business

Caunce O’Hara will retain its brand post-acquisition, and its 12 employees will remain at the organisation’s office in Manchester.

Neil Galjaard, divisional managing director at Markel UK, said; “We’re delighted to have got this acquisition over the line in such good time, so that we can start working with Chris Caunce and the team on integrating and further growing what is an excellent business.”
