‘We have invested in new technology and expertise to help customers assess the physical consequences,’ says head of Zurich’s Resilience Solutions

Insurer Zurich UK has launched a new consultancy service aimed helping customers manage their exposure to climate risks.

The climate change resilience service – launched yesterday (14 March 2023) – will provide clients with access to a team of UK specialists that can help customers identify, mitigate, adapt and report current and future risks related to climate change.

Clients of the consultancy “can now assess the threat to their physical assets and businesses from extreme weather events such as floods, heatwaves and wildfires”, a statement said.

The launch of the UK consultancy follows the international launch of the Global Climate Change Resilience Services at Zurich group level in September 2020 – Zurich UK will now make use of the full range of services for its domestic customers.

The newly launched UK service will become part of Zurich Resilience Solutions (ZRS). Debuted in 2021, ZRS saw double digit revenue growth in the UK in 2022.

’Identify vulnerabilities’

A Zurich statement said the climate resilience service would help firms implement adaptations to increase their resilience and “protect their bottom line”.

“The increasing frequency and severity of extreme weather is one of the most pressing concerns facing businesses,” Kumu Kumar, head of ZRS, said.

“We have invested in new technology and expertise to help customers assess the physical consequences they face from natural hazards and strengthen their resilience to climate related risks.

“With global reach, the latest data and technology and deep technical expertise, we can help customers identify potential climate vulnerabilities and put in place customised physical and organisational resilience solutions.

“Additionally, the service supports customers in various sustainability reporting frameworks, such as the taskforce on climate change related financial disclosures.”
