Aviva’s new hire has over 30 years of experience after prior stints at Zurich and Allianz

Aviva’s managing director of UK general insurance (UKGI) distribution and SME Gareth Hemming will be leaving the insurer at the end of the year to pursue new opportunities outside of the firm.

Succeeding Hemming is Zurich’s head of retail management David Martin, who will be joining the insurer in early 2023, subject to regulatory approval.

At Aviva, Hemming held several senior roles – including managing director of SME, managing director of personal lines and chief distribution officer.

The firm stated that he has been instrumental in the delivery of its growth, digital and automation agenda.

A spokesperson for Aviva said: “We would like to thank Gareth for his dedication and commitment during his notable 33-year career.”

Martin has more than 30 years of experience, including extensive digital trading knowledge across insurance and broker markets.

Prior to joining Zurich, Martin worked for Allianz Insurance for over 17 years.
