"We look for a continual degree of support in our partners and there must be a mutual interest. We choose our partners with care and evaluate on a basis of financial standing but do take trust as a factor. We don't offer tenders and review our partners monthly. We deal with all major UK brokers and a large number of high street and commercial brokers. Our loss adjuster is Roger Richard & Co and we use it almost exclusively. Our solicitor is Henmans.

Finding the company name Oak Underwriting was a labour of love. Lumsden-Cook said the board members had a meeting to discuss 300 potential names for the company and decided none would do. He was left with the task of finding some alternatives and when at home that evening, his wife looked at the 400 year-old oak tree in the garden and suggested the name 'Oak' represented stability, growth, longevity and reliability. The board members accepted it immediately.
