Travel insurer Primary Insurance has reminded holidaymakers who are booking winter sports holidays to ensure they have adequate travel cover.
The company, a subsidiary of Primary Group, said brokers needed to educate holiday makers at point of sale about the benefits of travel insurance and the risks they were taking if underinsured.
The company said over 500,000 Britons went on winter holidays each year and one in ten who skied needed medical assistance following an injury or accident.
Last year, Primary International handled more than £1m in claims for winter sports holidays. It said 44% of those were for medical incidents. The average claim was just over £828.
