Royal & SunAlliance (R&SA) will restructure its UK claims operation, closing eight small offices and introducing new jobs in six locations.

About 80 jobs will be lost between the second and fourth quarters of next year.

"Where redundancies are unavoidable, R&SA will try to ensure that these are obtained voluntarily and not on a compulsory basis," said UK claims director Rod Kitchen.

The restructure will create four key claims operations: specialist and large claims, claims services, technical head office and general claims operations.

Kitchen said the restructure aimed to "provide a greater focus for the company's extensive claims expertise to deliver a more consistent claims experience".
