The Institute of Risk Management (IRM) has relaunched its education programme to incorporate new study guides, textbooks and improved student support. The IRM said the changes were designed to meet the needs of "the growing diversity of risk management applications and practitioners".

The core subjects of the new programme were designed around Risk Management Standard, which was published in 2002 by the UK's three main risk management bodies.

Students enrolling now will qualify for the IRM's primary qualification, the associate diploma, which uses the new syllabus.

Subjects covered by the diploma include:
· The organisational, communications, process and decision context for risk and uncertainty management.
· Risk assessment, analysis and evaluation.
· Risk treatment, including physical controls, financial methods including insurance and corporate governance and internal controls.

Peter Howard, chairman of the IRM, commented: "The fundamental review that we have undertaken sought to re-establish the IRM at the forefront of risk management education, and we believe that the programme we have just launched does just that. It will equip risk professionals with the necessary tools, skills and competencies to meet the changes they face today and in the future."
