Simon Lee criticises government’s ‘slow’ response to flood solution

RSA group chief executive Simon Lee says the delay in talks between government and insurers over a deal to replace the Statement of Principles has left him worried.

Talks to provide a solution to the current 10-year flooding arrangement, which expires in June, have been ongoing for several months.

Insurers are currently committed to offering flood insurance cover to home owners in flood-affected areas, providing that the government invests in flood defences.

However, more than 200,000 households could struggle to obtain affordable rates on flood insurance should an agreement not be reached.

In an interview with The Sunday Telegraph, Lee said: “We’ve proposed a solution to the government and I think it is being a little tardy in responding to that solution … it’s a very real issue.

“We thought we were making progress but are slightly concerned it has slowed down.”
