David Grimley, St Paul Travelers technical claims manager, has died following a short illness, the company has announced.

Grimley's career in insurance spanned more than 40 years. In 1963 he joined the motor department of the Cooperative Insurance Services in his home town of Manchester.

He made his way up the career ladder and joined St. Paul Travelers as personal lines claims manager in 1990. Later he was appointed technical claims manager, with responsibility for all major losses in both personal and commercial lines business.

St Paul Travelers said Grimley would be remembered by his colleagues and the insurance market for his technical knowledge and vast experience.

He was a thoughtful and considerate man who loved nothing more than a reasoned argument but was always friendly, approachable and supportive of his colleagues, the company said.
