Swinton, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Royal & Sunalliance, has acquired the personal lines high street intermediary, Deansgate Insurance, for an undisclosed sum.

Based in the north west, Deansgate handled £6m premiums in 2000 through its 25 high street branches. It also has a call centre in Manchester.

The deal is the 21st acquisition made by Swinton in the past year, and Peter Halpin, Swinton director, said there were a number of other deals in the pipeline.

“We are well positioned to continue our acquisitions programme in 2001 and we are currently looking at all parts of the country for suitable opportunities,” he said.
