Farmers in the foot-and-mouth infested Helmsley area of North Yorkshire have been bemused to find that, at the disinfectant point, they are driving their vehicles over large expensive and exotic oriental rugs placed at the farm entrances.
Mike Dawson of Davies loss Adjusters Leeds office told us that following a serious fire at Spoilt for Choice Rugs in York, the entire stock of rugs was rendered unsuitable for sale due to smoke and water damage. During the foot and mouth outbreak, a number of local farmers approached the firm and many of the rugs are now doubling as disinfectant mats at the entrance to the farms.
