Lawrence Graham said its insurance lawyers had concerns about the FSA making known which insurance intermediaries had been given interim authorisation.

"Because the deadline turned out not to be a real deadline, the FSA is far more likely to come under pressure to use interim authorisation again," said Lawrence Graham partner Martin Mankabady.

He also said interim authorisation “potentially provides a lower level of protection" to consumers.

The danger, he said, was that consumers would perceive interim authorisation as a link to full authorisation “when this is not the case.”

Interim authorisation, he warned, would not give consumers the right to seek compensation for any losses caused the company.
