Towergate Underwriting Group has acquired Innpak, in a move that it said was part of its drive into the leisure sector.

Innpak specialises in providing cover to pubs, restaurants, wine bars, off licences and guest houses. It also provides home, travel and medical insurance.

The business has been going for nearly 25 years and has a book of business worth £3m in gross written premium.

Innpak is based in Canterbury and will remain in its current offices, said Towergate.

Towergate executive chairman Peter Cullum said: “This acquisition is a further development of our leisure-related insurance activities, and it fits very neatly with our proven niche market approach.

“This is a well-run business and we look forward to working with the management team in developing our activities in this area.”

This acquisition takes Towergate's managed gross premium to circa £240m, it said.
