Wellington has seen its group underwriting profits surge 78% to £57.2m (HY 2004: £32.1m).
The insurer reported a net combined ratio of 82% and a return on equity of over 30%.
The insurer estimated a net loss of $75m from Hurricane Katrina, which it said is comparable to the net losses from the 2004 hurricanes.
