XL Insurance has announced the addition of a new Excess & Surplus (E&S) unit to its operations.

The company said the new unit will be dedicated to providing primary casualty coverages to mid-size and large businesses and will report to David Duclos, chief underwriting officer of specialty operations for XL Insurance.

It added that E&S policies will be underwritten through Indian Harbor Insurance Company.

XL also said John DiBiasi has been appointed to join the company as E&S president. DiBiasi was previously executive vice president of underwriting at Nautilus Insurance Company.

DiBiasi said: "While the XL Insurance E&S unit will focus on primary casualty business, we will also have the capacity to provide property and umbrella business."
