Calls to Abbey Legal Protection for legal advice on redundancy increased by more than 20% in the final three months of 2001.
Abbey's legal information manager Claire Birkinshaw said the inquiries were about five main areas: redundancy procedures, employment contracts, disciplinary action, holiday entitlements and maternity issues.
Birkinshaw said the calls were prompted by the recent economic downturn.
